When I first arrived in Worcester, I was always in my room because I had no idea how to get around to do anything fun. Worcester is so strange compared to Ho Chi Minh City, my hometown, where I know like the back of my hand. I googled pages just to get an idea about this city; however, no pages have given me a good detail. Therefore, I want to share some of my experiences after a year living here, and hope that after reading this, you can all travel to the place you want.
The transportation that I am using consists mostly of buses. You can get a ride with $1.50-cheaper than most vehicles. To know which bus to ride, you need to understand some “technical terms” in Worcester J. Outbound means going out of the hub, and inbound means going into the hub. For example, if you wish to go to the Union Station, the hub, to take a train or Peter Pan bus to Boston, then you need to catch the inbound bus, and you should select that option to view the time. You should also notice that weekday and weekend schedules are different to see the right time.
If you plan to take more than two rides for a day, then the best option would be to purchase a one day bus pass of $3.50, which will save you a lot. From Clark, I can go to Auburn Mall by bus 27, and to the hub by 27, 19 and 33. The inbound bus to the hub will stop opposite of main gate, and near the park in case you are wondering. From the hub, I can then take bus 11 to Walmart, or bus 15 to UMass Hospital. That is just a general idea for everyone to get out of the room and start exploring Worcester. There is also an app to download on your phone to know when your bus is coming called WRTA Bus Tracker.
If you go with a group of friends, you have another option of calling Uber, which functions like a cab but is less pricey depending on the hour, and split the price so it gets more affordable.
For anyone who knows how to drive and has an international license, you can rent a Zipcar for $10 an hour.
